Professional Wet Riser Servicing

Annual servicing in accordance with BS9990:2015 is essential to ensure your wet riser system is fully operational. Wet risers require at least one service per year to remain compliant.

Why Regular Testing is Important

Wet risers are a critical part of a building's fire protection system and must be serviced at least annually by a competent individual to comply with BS9990:2015. For buildings above 18 metres in height, wet risers ensure a constant water supply is available for the fire brigade.

If the system is not regularly maintained, valves can seize, pipes can corrode, or pressure levels can drop, putting occupants and emergency responders at risk. Property owners or managers are responsible for ensuring the system is operational at all times.

Engaging a qualified company like Fire Sprinkler Servicing Ltd ensures that your wet riser is kept in working condition and ready for emergency use, while also meeting all compliance obligations.

What is Involved in a Wet Riser Service
Site Preparation
Before work begins, the building’s fire alarm system is isolated to prevent false alarms during testing.
Flow and pressure testing

A flow test will be conducted into the drain line, verifying that the system can deliver 750 litres per minute (LPM) from two landing valves simultaneously. A pressure gauge will be used to ensure 8 bar pressure is achieved at each PRV.

System Inspection & PRV Operation Check
Engineers carry out a full visual inspection of the wet riser system, including inlet breeching, outlet valves, cabinets, and pipework.

Landing valves are inspected and checked for damage or corrosion and replaced or repaired as needed
Cabinet & Signage
All riser inlet and outlet cabinets are checked to confirm signage is in place and doors are secure.
Pump Set and Associated Plant
A thorough visual inspection of the pump set and associated plant are carried out to identify any signs of wear, leaks, or potential faults that could impact the system performance.
Detailed Job Report
Following the service, a detailed report will be created with all findings and flow/pressure readings. Photos of readings will be included along with any remedial advisories.
